Adventures come in many types, and while we have taken trips to Colorado (Rocky Mountain NP and Denver), California (San Francisco and Muir Woods), Florida (Disney!), Chicago, and our own beautiful North Shore (Grand Marais, Duluth, and Larsmont MN), our first big adventure took place in the summer of 2015. We set out for a 2 week journey that began with an overnight stay at the Element Hotel in Fargo, ND.
Why stop short of a full first day? Why stop in Fargo of all places? What exactly is our best practical road trip tip?
Make your first driving day a shorter day. Here’s why…
Reason #1: Easing into a long day in the car
There are few things harder to acclimate to than spending all day in the car. Especially if you are spending all day in the car and you can count on one hand the number of years you have been on this earth. The planner in the family will want to get 12 hours in and not stop to pee, but let’s be practical people. The smartest thing you can do is ease into a long road trip! Spirits will be high and the transition will be far more natural.
Reason #2: Element Hotels…
We love this hotel – primarily for the awesome Family Suite, great complimentary breakfast, and saline pool! It is a great pitstop in the Fargo area – right off I-94, next to a Costco, and a number of good restaurants. Simply put, I stay in Element Hotels anywhere I can. A blend between a Westin, an Aloft, a less Grandparenty Hampton Inn, and a Residence Inn, Element Hotels are fun, fresh, and super comfortable. Do yourself a favor and spend the night here and give a gift to your family!
In case you didn’t believe me about #1 — look at this!
As soon as I punched in our next hotel’s address, I was greeted with this whopper of a day. Not only do you have the farms of North Dakota to look at, but you don’t even get to turn or change roads for 600 miles!!
